Meet Tanya

QUESTION 1. What one book should every coach read - and why?

One book? Oh my! I'm going to go with my gut here.

The first one that comes to mind is Essentialism by Greg McKeown. While there are plenty of fantastic books I could list about coaching, inner growth, business growth, healing and mindset, this book catches us in the midst of our pursuit and reminds us to stay connected with the big picture and remain aligned with not just our goals but the life we want to experience in this exact moment.

QUESTION 2. Which website do you visit the most?

  • I spend most of my time on our Success By Design Group Website supporting our members, updating trainings and sharing conversations.
  • Outside of that I'm constantly on Loom to do video responses to my emails (I think I'm going to give up writing emails altogether Ha!).
  • And we can't forget the almighty Canva that empowers a lowly non-designer like myself to create new materials and worksheets for our clients.
  • Lastly, on my lucky days you'll find me on a Youtube binge watching Sadhguru and Impact Theory with Tom Bilyue.

QUESTION 3. Whom do you admire most and why?

Seth Godin amazes me with his incredible level of success, heart and zen like approach to everything. While sitting as a leading business visionary, he somehow transcends that to be more of a life guide that just "happens" to know about business. His prolific work inspires me to keep going and know that I can be just as calm while being effective and make an impact.

QUESTION 4. What's your vision for your life? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

The ultimate vision for my life is to remain joyful. Our family has lived across the globe and will continue to travel and explore, but more than any outside experiences I want to maintain joy 90+ percent of the time.

The vision for the business is growing our Success By Design Group to support 1000's of entrepreneurs and certify our Success Schedule Program Leaders to move beyond 7 figures so we can fund a foundation to equip children in the foster care system with emotional intelligence, compassionate inquiry and post traumatic wisdom.

QUESTION 5. What is your "big project" at the moment?

I'm already on a mission to eliminate the hustle lifestyle from the entrepreneurial path.

As a recovered workaholic, I use to find my value in my output and I missed out on a lot of life. I found myself a widow at age 25 having spent most of my married life focused on work and getting things "done". I was focused on "someday" in the future instead of the "now" and in a flash, my husband was gone.

This fuels my drive to teach others that we have Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There is no "someday" on a calendar. If you want it to happen, make it real, find the time for it now on a real calendar and put your plan into motion. Life will not wait for you to be "ready".

We created the Success Schedule Program to teach people how to find the time-not only their "have to's" but also their "want to's" based in the reality of their day to day life. So far, we've had over 160 participants from 6 continents experience life changing results by learning this skill. We are currently expanding it into a certification program, an adapting a version of to bring into the high school system.

Busy is not a necessary part of life. Joy is.

QUESTION 6. What has been your favourite coaching moment so far?

Business coaching is unique in that we often discuss very specific and granular plans and activities, the nuts and bolts, nitty gritty.

However, we are whole people. There is no such thing as work/life separation—it's all life.

Because of this, teaching clients to make space for their want to's and creating time for the things they enjoy is a crucial part of our business project planning.

It's so rewarding when a client takes a vacation or time off for family, friends or themselves and comes back to the office to see their sales improve, that business is more efficient and they generally enjoy their life.

Self Care is a business decision.

QUESTION 7. What are your Top 3 favourite coaching tools and/or resources?

  1. Monthly Reflection & Planning: We do free monthly planning sessions that allow people the space to reflect on the past 30 days, learn lessons from their performance and create goals for the next 30 days. It's a powerful tool to measure and improve.
  2. Uncover Your Deepest Motivation Worksheet: Uncovering each level of your "why" going 7 layers deep. When the going gets tough, surface goals won't hold water. We have to know what's at the depth of our wants. When we can hold onto that we can remain steadfast in our mission.
  3. Roadblock Plan Worksheet: Part planning, part neuroscience. The Roadblock worksheet helps us scan for potential barriers and prep our mind for the best response. This allows us to pivot easily, having visualized the possibility and predetermined our ideal response.

QUESTION 8. What do you love most about being a coach?

The honor of being trusted to serve and guide clients is an incredible position to be in.

As a business coach, I also get a lot of space to problem solve and co-create with my clients.

Seeing them find their strengths, overcome weaknesses and reach levels of success and accomplishment they doubted they were capable of... well, there's not much that can compete with that.

QUESTION 9. Tell us a secret about you...

I make my own toothpaste, read and write Korean, used to work in the Hip Hop music scene and secretly do dance choreography in my bedroom.

If I could only pick one type of food to eat for the rest of my life, it'd be Vietnamese food.

QUESTION 10. If you could change one thing in our world, what would it be? And how would you go about it?

"Someday" mentality. Because your best life exists today. Not in the future.

I am doing this one step at a time by teaching people how to unbusy their life, reconnect (or find for the first time) their ultimate vision and make a real step by step plan to get there.

Motivation isn't enough. How do you connect to your best life when the alarm goes off at 6am, or the kids wake you up screaming. That's where your future is made.

I will continue to teach, lead and serve until my final days to pass this message and skill on.
