Meet Vedika

QUESTION 1. What one book should every coach read - and why?

It's very difficult to choose one book. I have many favorites like Michael Bungay Stanier, Brene Brown, John Maxwell and others. However, one book I believe every coach should read is Coaching for Performance by Sir John Whitmore.

This seminal work lays a solid foundation in coaching principles and techniques, emphasizing the importance of unlocking potential through focused conversations and empowerment. It provides practical tools for enhancing clarity, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence, essential for effective coaching.

Whitmore's emphasis on the GROW model (Goal, Reality, Options, Will) helps coaches structure sessions for maximum impact, making it indispensable for both novice and experienced coaches looking to deepen their practice and achieve transformative results with their clients.

QUESTION 2. Which website do you visit the most?

There are many websites I learn from, and I have built my learning treasury.

  1. The Coaching Tools Company is number 1. It offers a variety of coaching resources, including articles, tools, and templates for coaches to use in their practice.
  2. The International Coaching Federation (ICF) website offers a wealth of resources, including webinars, articles, and research papers, as well as information on certifications and professional development opportunities.
  3. The Harvard Business Review (HBR) offers articles, case studies, and insights on leadership, management, and coaching. It's a valuable resource for staying updated on business trends and learning from thought leaders in the field.

QUESTION 3. Whom do you admire most and why?

Choosing just one person to admire is challenging because we learn valuable lessons from diverse individuals across various cultures and life experiences. I would like to pick one from personal life and one professional.

Undoubtedly, my mother epitomizes resilience. A cancer survivor who has undergone multiple surgeries, she faced the loss of her partner after 41 years and a spine surgery at age 70, yet she continues to travel abroad with a zest for life, respecting and reciprocating the love from family members. Her example has taught me the importance of resilience, tenacity, and perseverance—trying new things, and imbibed the love and respect for relationships.

In my professional journey, I've been fortunate to have colleagues, bosses, and coaches who became mentors, teaching me invaluable lessons about living life fully, maintaining a learning mindset, and offering unwavering support. Their guidance has played a pivotal role in my personal and professional development. Their simplicity and willingness to share knowledge and experience have profoundly influenced my growth over the past decade.

QUESTION 4. What's your vision for your life? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

My vision for my life is to touch more people's lives by fostering self-awareness and genuine fulfillment.

In five years, I envision myself working with a diverse range of individuals—from professionals and executives to homemakers, teens, and young adults—across all walks of life. I aspire to empower them to discover their true potential, overcome challenges, and achieve personal and professional fulfillment through coaching and mentorship.

QUESTION 5. What is your "big project" at the moment? OR What are your Top 3 Goals at the moment?

Currently, my primary focus is establishing a robust presence as a coach, mentor, and trainer.

My top three goals are:

  1. To reach and positively impact a wide range of individuals by fostering self-awareness and fulfillment through coaching.
  2. To achieve PCC (Professional Certified Coach) credentialing to further enhance my coaching credentials and expertise.
  3. To maintain a healthy work-life balance while pursuing these professional goals, ensuring personal well-being alongside professional success.

QUESTION 6. What has been your favourite coaching moment so far?

One of my most cherished coaching moments with two women clients who had a significant breakthrough during our coaching sessions. Each had a profound "aha moment" when they recognized that their current approaches were not leading to the happiness and fulfillment they desired.

Through our collaborative coaching process, they embraced acceptance and began exploring new avenues to infuse vitality into their lives while pursuing their passions.

Witnessing their determination to shift their perspectives and proactively seek happiness, not only in their initial subject but also across other facets of their lives, was truly inspiring. It highlighted the transformative power of coaching in facilitating self-discovery and empowering individuals to initiate positive changes that ripple through various aspects of their lives.

QUESTION 7. What are your Top 3 favourite coaching tools and/or resources?

My top three favorite coaching tools and resources are:

  1. Wheel of Life: This tool allows clients to visually assess and evaluate different areas of their life, such as career, relationships, health, and personal growth. It provides a holistic view that helps identify areas for improvement and set meaningful goals.
  2. Emotional Intelligence (EQ) Assessments: Utilizing EQ assessments helps clients understand their emotional strengths and areas for development. This deepens self-awareness and supports clients in enhancing their emotional intelligence, which is crucial for personal and professional success.
  3. Powerful Coaching Questions: Crafting and using insightful coaching questions tailored to each client's situation is essential. These questions provoke thought, encourage reflection, and stimulate new perspectives, fostering breakthroughs and actionable insights.

These tools and resources are invaluable in my coaching practice, enabling me to facilitate meaningful conversations, empower clients to achieve their goals, and support their journey towards personal and professional growth.

QUESTION 8. What do you love most about being a coach?

Beyond the opportunity to ask questions (which is my absolute favorite thing to do, even when I am not coaching 🙂 ) what truly excites me about coaching is witnessing people's transformation as they gain clarity and self-awareness. Seeing how clarity clears the clouds and self-awareness brings confidence and empowerment is immensely fulfilling.

QUESTION 9. Tell us a secret about you...

Unlike others, I place less emphasis on the concept of "help" or "helping people." While assistance may be provided once or twice, my focus and philosophy center around empowerment.

I advocate for empowering individuals to become self-sufficient. I do not promise quick transformations to my clients; instead, I believe that life itself is a continuous journey of transformation. One can continually take steps towards personal growth throughout their lifetime; there are no limits to this journey. This belief is a personal principle that guides my approach to coaching.

QUESTION 10. If you could change one thing in our world, what would it be? And how would you go about it?

If I could change one thing in our world, it would be to cultivate a greater willingness to engage in open and honest (and hard) conversations.

In my coaching approach, I prioritize fostering awareness, which often arises from these types of discussions. As part of my plan, I intend to develop a series of concise blogs or ebooks that explore various emotions and feelings.

Additionally, I aim to create podcasts as a platform for deeper dialogue—though this is a long-term goal, it represents my commitment to promoting meaningful conversations and enhancing awareness on a broader scale.
