This month we meet Jenny Beckford, a Parent & Teen Coach from the UK. Interview with Jenny About Jenny Lives In: United Kingdom Company: Greater Elevation Type of Coach: Parent & Teen Coach Describe your coaching business in one sentence: Greater Elevation is a coaching company that empowers parents to strengthen family connections and elevate teen development through transformative personal growth strategies. Meet Jenny From parenting challenges to professional transformation, Jenny Beckford has turned her lived experiences into a powerful coaching practice. In a recent conversation with Dr Steve Jeffs and Erwin de Grave, Jenny shared how raising twin daughters inspired her to create Greater Elevation, a coaching business dedicated to helping parents and teenagers connect, communicate, and thrive. As a Parent and Teen Coach, NLP Practitioner, and Master’s graduate in Coaching Psychology, Jenny supports families to strengthen their relationships and create lasting change. Her mission is to help parents unlearn old habits, discover new strategies, and guide teens towards self-belief and higher aspirations. From Parenting Struggles to Coaching Calling Jenny’s path into coaching began at home. As a single mother raising twin girls, she found the teenage years especially challenging. Despite years of success supporting young people professionally, home life often felt like "a battlefield." Arguments, resistance, and tension became daily struggles. Her turning point came when she joined a coaching academy she discovered online. Instead of focusing solely on her daughters’ behaviour, Jenny’s coach invited her to reflect inward. She realised her own communication style and reactions were part of the cycle. By taking accountability and working on herself, she transformed not only her parenting but also her relationship with her daughters. Now in their twenties, Jenny and her daughters share a close, supportive bond. That transformation inspired her to dedicate her coaching to helping other families navigate similar challenges. Supporting Parents and Teens Jenny works with parents to unlearn outdated patterns—what she calls “old school parenting”—and adopt new ways of connecting with their children. She also works directly with teenagers, helping them reshape their mindset, build confidence, and raise their aspirations. Her coaching blends lived experience with professional training, offering families strategies that go beyond the surface to address root causes of disconnection and conflict. Tools That Spark Transformation Jenny has developed a practical set of tools and approaches that bring her coaching to life: The Three-Word Feedback Exercise – Parents ask their teens to describe them in three words, sparking vulnerable, honest feedback. Connection Guide – Stages for parents to strengthen their bond with teens, including one-to-one “quality time.” Non-Negotiables Contract – Agreements between parent and teen that clarify expectations and reduce conflict. Family Mission Statement – A shared statement of values and goals for the household. Trackers and Routines – Simple systems to help teens build independence and structure. Love Languages Quiz – A fun way for families to understand each other’s love languages and deepen connection. These tools create structure and open communication, helping families replace conflict with cooperation. Parenting Styles and Self-Awareness Jenny also introduces parents to the four parenting styles—authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and uninvolved. Many, like Jenny once did, discover they fall into more authoritarian habits than they realise. By exploring these patterns, parents can shift towards a healthier, more authoritative style: combining clear boundaries with warmth and collaboration. A Commitment to Growth Jenny is passionate about continuous learning. She draws on insights from books such as How to Do the Work by Nicole LePera, Atomic Habits by James Clear, and The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman. For Jenny, knowledge is not enough—it’s applied knowledge that creates transformation. She also reminds parents that their children are always observing them: “They’re watching how you show up, even when you think they’re not.” By modelling better behaviour, parents inspire change in their teens. In Conclusion: From Conflict to Connection Whether coaching parents one-to-one, supporting teens through workshops, or leading her Facebook community of over 800 parents, Jenny Beckford is dedicated to helping families strengthen communication and build lasting bonds. Her approach is rooted in self-awareness, empathy, and practical tools that empower parents and teenagers to thrive—together.
