About Beboi

Lives In: Senegal

Type of Coach: Career & Executive

Describe your coaching business in one sentence: I help others activate their potential and thrive. My work focuses on helping women across Africa rise above cultural and workplace challenges by reconnecting with their strengths, stories, and self-belief.

Meet Beboi

From HR leader to confidence-building coach, Beboi Lifanda is passionate about helping African women shift from surviving to thriving. In a recent conversation with Dr Steve Jeffs and Erwin de Grave, Beboi shared how her years in humanitarian HR roles led her to coaching—and how she now uses that experience to help others find clarity, reclaim their voice, and grow their confidence.

From Humanitarian HR to Confidence Coaching

With 20 years of experience in human resources—15 of those in the humanitarian sector—Beboi began integrating coaching long before she officially called herself a coach. After receiving initial coaching training in her HR role, she pursued certification through the University of Cape Town and continued bringing a coach-like mindset to her leadership work.

Today, she works independently as a coach while still serving in an HR leadership position. Through her practice, she helps women move beyond imposter syndrome and cultural conditioning so they can see themselves clearly and lead with confidence.

Coaching with Cultural Awareness

As an African woman herself, Beboi deeply understands the societal expectations many women grow up with—around modesty, humility, and not speaking up. These cultural messages often hold women back professionally, reinforcing feelings of self-doubt and silence.

Beboi helps her clients reframe their stories, appreciate their contributions, and feel comfortable owning their strengths. She also recognises the power of visibility and representation, sharing openly about her own journey so that others can see what’s possible.

From Surviving to Thriving: She Thrives

One of Beboi’s biggest aspirations is to build a platform and movement called She Thrives—a space to support African women through coaching, storytelling, and community. Her goal is to empower women who are currently just “getting by” in their roles to step into new levels of confidence and growth—and to help them pass that empowerment on to others.

She envisions a ripple effect: thriving women building thriving communities and mentoring others in return.

Tools That Spark Insight and Growth

Beboi regularly uses coaching tools to deepen reflection and inspire clarity. Two of her favourites are:

  • The Rocking Chair Exercise – a powerful visualisation that encourages clients to dream freely about their future, beyond their current limitations.
  • Personal SWOT Analysis – a practical tool that helps clients explore their strengths, opportunities, and growth areas from a more empowered perspective.

In her HR work, Beboi also uses the GROW Model to facilitate developmental conversations with staff and managers, helping others adopt a coach-like approach even within operational roles.

Asking Better Questions

One of the resources that’s influenced Beboi’s coaching most is Change Your Questions, Change Your Life by Marilee Adams. It reinforced for her how powerful self-inquiry can be, and how changing the way we ask questions—especially of ourselves—can shift everything.

This insight aligns with her belief that coaching starts with curiosity, deep listening, and creating space for people to hear their own truth.

In Conclusion: From Clarity to Confidence

Whether she’s mentoring future leaders, supporting HR professionals, or coaching women to reconnect with their strengths, Beboi Lifanda’s work is all about helping others thrive. Her clients walk away with more confidence, deeper clarity, and a renewed belief in what’s possible.

Beboi is also a dedicated member of the TCTC Mentor Program, where she continues to develop her coaching practice alongside a global community of supportive, like-minded professionals.
