The Coaching Tools Company Expert Author Badge

I came across Marc over a decade ago and loved his holistic and thoughtful approach to mind, body and both why and what we eat. This approach encompasses nutritional science but also encourages us to keep learning and discovering what works for us as individuals using body wisdom, trying things out—our grandma and more! As well as having coaches in the wellness field, we all eat! So I asked him for an article that all coaches would find interesting.

Author Bio

As a young medical student at SUNY Upstate Medical School, Marc quickly realized that there was a profound gap between his nutritional training and the kinds of daily struggles he saw many people experiencing around food and body. He recognized early on his professional life that understanding the psychology of eating was key to helping people create the kind of nourishing, supportive relationship with food and body that they so eagerly desire.

For over four decades, Marc has been an innovator in Eating Psychology and Mind Body Nutrition. His humorous, engaging, warm-hearted and informative speaking style has made him a popular and well-loved presenter, and his uplifting and inclusive approach appeals to a wide audience of eaters who are looking for fresh, positive, and inspiring messages about food and body.

Marc earned his M.A. in Psychology at Sonoma State University and went on to originate the field of eating psychology – the very field he had wished to study as a young medical student but simply did not exist at that time.

Marc's extensive background in clinical nutrition and eating psychology have made him a sought-after speaker around the world, and mentor to many of the luminaries in the fields of nutrition and natural medicine. His many speaking engagements include Harvard University, The Institute for Functional Medicine, The Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and The National Institute for the Clinical Application of Behavioral Medicine. Marc has a long history in product development and marketing in the food and supplement industries, and he's held senior consulting positions at Canyon Ranch Resorts, Johnson & Johnson, The Disney Company, and The Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. Additionally, he's served on the editorial board of Alternative Therapies in Heath and Medicine.

His internationally-recognized bestselling books, Nourishing Wisdom: A Mind-Body Approach to Nutrition and Well-Being (Random House) and The Slow Down Diet: Eating for Pleasure, Energy, and Weight Loss (Simon & Schuster) have been translated into over a dozen languages and continue to attract readers around the world who are looking for a different approach to nutrition and wellness. Marc's work has been featured in such media outlets as CNN, NBC, The New York Times, The Chicago-Sun Times, Glamour, Elle, Yoga Journal, WebMD, and many more.

Marc founded The Institute for the Psychology of Eating to channel his passionate mission of educating people in an uplifting and results-driven approach to today's eating challenges and nutrition-linked health concerns. Attracting students from 60+ countries around the world, it is the only institute in the world devoted to teaching the approaches and principles of Eating Psychology and Mind Body Nutrition.

The Institute has gone on to train thousands of skilled practitioners in its premier, 8-month coach certification training program, The Mind Body Eating Coach Certification Training. Additionally, Marc's approach is offered to the public through a variety of programs designed to help people shift their beliefs and behaviors around food and body challenges—and ultimately find the health and fulfillment they're seeking.
