Recommended Reading for Life Coaches:

Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway by Susan Jeffers. This book title pretty much says it all. And yet there's so much more to it! The fear thoughts cause us so much more suffering than just doing it!

Take Time For Your Life by Cheryl Richardson. This book is excellent recommendation for your time-starved, workaholic clients (or for yourself?) who need a boost and a reminder to take care of themselves. Some tips overly simple - like 'balance your checkbook' - but there are plenty of people out there who don't do the simple things...

The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman. This book proposes we each have a primary love language that makes us feel loved. Sadly we assume our partner's (or children's or friend's) love language is the same as ours - and of course it is probably different. Hence so many people feel unloved and/or unappreciated. This book provides an excellent talking point for couples (which spills into other relationships in your life). Love-changing...

A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. Seminal book by Eckhart Tolle (and raved about by Oprah). I found the beginning slow-going but warmed up shortly after. LOVE his thoughts on life and spirituality - all centering around acceptance and being in the 'Now'. Nothing new here, but he positions the concepts non-denominationally and maps them neatly onto modern life. Also by the same author: The Power of Now and many more.

Soul Without Shame by Byron Brown. This book can be quite heavy reading and, some would argue, borders on therapy. For your intellectual but highly self-critical client...

The Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff. One of my all-time favourite books. The author uses Winnie the Pooh and characters to illustrate Taoist wisdom and how crazy the busy, fearful, newsy world we live in really is.

The Voice of Knowledge - a Practical Guide to Inner Peace by Don Miguel Ruiz. Using the ancient Toltec wisdom, the author explains that we had inner peace and self-love as a child. Through criticism and fear we put on masks and forget who we are. I don't like that the author says we are 'lied' to - it sounds very harsh, but once I was into the book I couldn't put it down! Enjoy. Also by the same author: The Four Agreements, The Mastery of Love and more.

When the Body Says No: The Cost of Hidden Stress by Dr Gabor Mate. This book is quite detailed and left-brained in places, but will get your clients thinking about the cost of stress on their emotional AND physical well being. A great, practical introduction to mind-body wellness.
