How This Year's Benefits of Coaching Infographics Came About:

For this year's International Coaching Week, we got our team together and did some brainstorming. We want you to be proud of being a coach, to celebrate you and the coaching industry. We came up with so many ideas that we picked 3 concepts for 2019!

  1. Firstly, we created 4 Infographics on The Benefits of Coaching! Because we know how hard it can be to explain what coaching is - and how people can benefit from having a coach! These came about when we asked on Linkedin, "What do YOU think are the benefits of coaching?". We had so many great answers that we decided to create not one but FOUR BRAND NEW Infographics  - outlining the Benefits of Coaching.
  2. And we also created a total of 7 Bumper Sticker Graphics for you to share. These consist of 3 Fun Graphics based on the I :heart:Coaching theme.
  3. PLUS 4 more fun Bumper Sticker Graphics with a different concept, look & feel!

Let's get Social Media buzzing about Coaching!

No melanated coaches for your poster? This makes me sad because melanated people need it now more than ever and after 20 years in the business this saddens me that there is no representation.

      Dear Rev. Safiya,

I had to look up "melanated"! Thank-you for that new expression 🙂

We do try very hard to represent diversity on our website - specifically in our articles and infographics. In fact, in the last couple of years you will find people from many races and with many skin colours, and definitely more women than men representing coaches and clients on our website. We also specifically consider diversity in terms of age and size, as well as specifically trying to avoid unnecessarily sexualised images where the models are being objectified or stereotyped.

So, these particular infographics. They were created from comments on questions that we asked on Social Media - and these were the people who responded. We did not know the skin colour when sorting through the comments, grouping and compiling the list. It was only after compiling the graphic that we approached people for headshots etc.

I am sorry that there are only a couple of melanated coaches in these graphics. And I thank-you for raising this.

      Warmly, Emma-Louise <3

I had the same thought of being saddened that there where no obvious people of color. By that I specifically mean when looking at the pictures I didn’t see any women of color. While diversity is definitely much more than whether someone presents as black, brown or white, visually it matters!

        Dear Coach Cayme,
I agree, and please see my response to Rev. Safiya. In the same way that it matters to have female visual representation, it's important to have different skin colours represented.

Here at The Coaching Tools Company we are continuing to learn about diversity - which we do take very seriously. Even though we are a small business - with very limited time and resources, we regularly take the extra time needed to source stock photos with people of colour, even when we find an image right away with a caucasian model. This may not sound like much, but it adds up - and I hope this demonstrates that this is important to us! We also actively change the skin colour and hair of the illustrations we use for our graphics (see the confidence one here: https://www.thecoachingtoolscompany.com/confidence-infographic-10-savvy-ways-be-more-confident/ and the Awesome Ways to be Bolder Graphic here: https://www.thecoachingtoolscompany.com/10-ways-to-be-bolder-in-life-infographic/)

Hopefully you noticed our "hero" image on the homepage is a woman of colour, and has been since 2016. Also the woman we use for our categories lower down the page - is a woman of colour.

We also try to include different ages and sizes (we live in an ageist and sizeist culture too!) and have a definite bias towards female images generally.

Unfortunately with these graphics, the content was created without knowing the skin colour. And we also recognize that that doesn't change the result.

Thank-you for drawing our attention to this. Warmly, Emma-Louise
