Whether you're a coach, counselor, therapist or social worker, affirmative writing is a great exercise to offer your clients who are making changes and attempting to bridge the gap from where they are to where they want to be. And it's also a great journaling exercise for your own self-care and visioning.

Affirmative writing is where we write to bridge the gap between our current reality and our desired outcome, whether it's events, goals, feelings, situations or something else. We write as if these things are already so—including our feeling state.

Tip: Feelings are the magnet when it comes to realizing your dreams and goals.

Henriette Anne Klauser, author of the book, Write It Down, Make It Happen – Knowing What You Want – and Getting It! says:

"When you show your earnestness and intention by writing it down, something opens up. The word gets out… it creates a kind of Jungian synchronicity, a convergence of meaning events. Write it down to be clear in communication to its possibility, and then activity here will create related movement there."

I have seen many of my clients create amazing results from this exercise—including getting unstuck, gaining clarity on their goals and moving forward. But I recommend that before you ask your clients to do this, you try this affirmative writing exercise for yourself!

The universe wants to know your intentions so that you can be fully supported to manifest them and affirmative writing will help you achieve that.

Affirmative Writing Exercise

  1. Imagine yourself six months from now, what would you like to be different? Imagine your future, six months from now, in as much detail as possible and write about it. Imagine it as wholeheartedly as you can. And write about how you feel in the present tense (as if it is already so).
    • What would you like to achieve by then?
    • What do you want to be doing or not doing?
    • How is your health?
    • Who is around you?
    • What is really exciting for you?
    • How could your life be the best it can be?
    • What would you be really jazzed about?
  2. Now identify ONE action you could take to move towards that reality.
    • It's probably something you've already thought of doing, but have been putting off: Now is the time!

Everything is possible! BELIEVE. FEEL. Write as if it is already so. Manifest. TAKE ACTION.
Take more action. Be still. Listen within.  All the answers you need are already there.

Happy dreaming and visioning!
