Hi everyone! A short and (hopefully) sweet post this week as I know you’re busy. I want you to remember to celebrate YOU this December. For many of us it can feel like a treadmill of sending cards, buying & wrapping gifts and parties – so make some time to celebrate YOU.
Like me, you run your own business – and it takes a LOT of time, energy and hard work. You have put your heart and soul into it – helping others to have better, happier lives, careers and businesses.
But it’s so easy to focus on what we didn’t get done – and what we still need to work on. So, instead I want you to take a few moments (now if you like!) to reflect on these 3 things:
- The 5 things you are most proud of this year (remember this isn’t about anyone else’s standards – these are things YOU are proud of!)
- The 3 biggest things you accomplished.
- The 3 biggest successes your clients had this year.
You could also do this quick exercise with your friends, family – and clients!
AND finally, what are you going to do to celebrate or reward yourself for all your hard work? You are amazing and you deserve to remember that! For example I organize a holiday party with a group of friends who have their own businesses. And last year I treated myself to a pair of boots I had been eyeing up for the previous 6 months (Dr Martens with wide ribbon laces!). Every time I wear them I remember how hard I work and that I deserve to be proud of myself! What about a nice dinner, spa treatment, or something you wouldn’t ordinarily do – or give to – yourself?
“People of our time are losing the power of celebration. Instead of celebrating we seek to be amused or entertained. Celebration is an active state, an act of expressing reverence or appreciation. To be entertained is a passive state – it is to receive pleasure afforded by an amusing act or a spectacle… Celebration is a confrontation, giving attention to the transcendent meaning of one’s actions.” Abraham Joshua Heschel
